Healthy Hair Habits
There are many different things that can affect the way your hair looks, from
your environment, both indoors and out, to the hair products you use. Even the
way you wash your hair and comb your hair can affect the way you look.
Follow the 10 Tips below and you will have healthy and beautiful hair:
- A healthy and balanced diet is essential for strong hair.
- Exposure to the sun can be damaging to hair. Always wear a hat in strong
sunlight.
- In sunlight also protect the uncovered ends of your hair with
moisturizer that blocks UV rays, chlorine and saltwater. This is particularly
important if you will be swimming.
- Do not wash your hair everyday. Wash your hair gently three times a
week using a mild shampoo. If you work out, or feel that you need to
wash your hair daily, then on alternate days skip the shampoo and just rinse
the hair and condition the ends.
- Condition less often, but more deeply. Deep condition with a
natural, protein packed, leave-in, style product every 2 weeks. Be aware that
while most daily conditioners are effective at detangling, they can't easily
penetrate hair and are not as effective as the deep conditioners.
- If your hair is tangled and saturated with conditioner, use a wide
tooth comb to detangle it.
- Hair dryers can easily damage hair if set too hot and used incorrectly. Set
your hair dryer to a cool setting and do not
leave it focused on one spot, keep it moving. For best results try using an
Ionic dryer.
- Use the correct hairspray. Look for non-alcohol or low-alcohol
volumizing products. Be aware of alcohol based hairsprays as the alcohol dries
out the hair making it more vulnerable to damage, especially from sunlight.
- Brushing is a vital part of a healthy hair regime. Brush every
night before bed. Brush from the scalp down to the ends to move the natural oils
down the hair. A natural-bristle brush carries oils best; for extra-thick hair,
use a hybrid, with both nylon and boar bristles
- Every 6 weeks make sure to trim any spilt-ends.
